Latest Changes at Burbank Courthouse

The Burbank Courthouse has been undergoing a number of new updates in the last few months, and more changes are coming. In March, the Los Angeles Superior Court budget cuts forced a layoff of more than 310 court employees, and Burbank Court was not spared their share of the cutbacks in the Clerk's Office. The Burbank Courthouse is now forced to do more with less staff, and 500 more LASC layoffs are expected by September, 2010, which will likely impact the Burbank Court staff's ability to run as smoothly. Remarkably, the hard-working court staff team in Burbank has managed to keep all of the courtrooms running at full-capacity.
During the past year, the Criminal Courts in Burbank have been moved around, a bit. Division 2, which used to be on the first floor, is now on the second floor. Department G, which was on the second floor, is now on the first floor. Divisions 1 and 3 remain in the same locations. Departments 2 and 3 now divided the misdemeanor arraignments, while Department G hears long-cause misdemeanor matters transferred from Divisions 2 and 3. Division 1 continues to hear felony matters. With all of the cutbacks, it will be interesting to see if these assignments remain constant. Time will tell.
